PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Focus on Creativity

Dear Families,

This week, our school focused on the character strength of Creativity. Creativity means coming up with new and original ways to think about and do things.

Creative people see the world differently. They are open to new experiences and think independently. They come up with many ideas and pursue them with energy and enthusiasm. Creativity takes courage because sharing original ideas can sometimes lead to criticism.

Creativity is vital to our world! Creative solutions can help resolve conflicts and find compromises that satisfy everyone involved, strengthening relationships. It helps us solve tough problems, create new things, and see the world in fresh ways. Examples include treatments for deadly illnesses, such as cancer, the invention of the cell phone, and the development of solar panels. Imagine life without Impressionist paintings or the creation of airplanes and rocket ships.

To encourage creativity with your child at home, ask them to tell you stories, share their art and engage in games they design.

Thank you for your support!

Lockdown Drill Wednesday, October 30

In cooperation with the New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) safety regulations, Sharon Springs Central School District will be conducting a “lockdown drill” next Wednesday (Oct. 30). This practice is a key component of our emergency safety plan, ensuring that our students, faculty, and staff are prepared to respond effectively in the event of an emergency.

We understand that drills like these can be unsettling, particularly for younger students. Our faculty and staff are committed to conducting the drill in an age-appropriate manner, prioritizing students’ mental health throughout the process. Teachers will guide students through each step, explaining the importance of the drill while providing reassurance and support.

At Sharon Springs CSD, the foundation of a safe, welcoming, and engaging school environment is a collaborative effort. By working together to model kindness, address and correct unkind behavior or words, and look out for one another’s well being, we strengthen our community. We appreciate your support in helping us maintain a caring, secure and supportive atmosphere for all.

HALLOWEEN PARADE AND COSTUMES

Halloween will be celebrated at SSCS on Thursday, October 31st, 2024 with our traditional Halloween Parade starting at 2:15 p.m. Parents and community members are welcome to line-up around the U-shaped driveway to watch the children in the parade (weather permitting).

Please remember that costumes must be appropriate for a school setting, and not involve excessive blood, gore, or weapons.  In addition, costumes need to follow the basic requirements of the Code of Conduct Dress Code and not be “revealing” or “suggestive” in nature. Middle and High School costumes must be able to be worn in such a manner that it will not distract or disrupt the educational activities that are otherwise planned for the day. “Scary clown/ creepy clown” masks and costumes will not be allowed to be worn or possessed on school grounds.
