PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Focus on Open-Mindedness

Dear Families,

Our school focused on the character strength of Open-Mindedness this week. This means being willing to consider new ideas and try new things. It involves looking at situations from multiple sides and not jumping to conclusions.

Open-mindedness is about seeking out and fairly weighing evidence, even if it goes against our own opinions or goals. Open-minded people listen to different viewpoints, including those that are less popular. They are often good listeners and provide balanced advice, which makes them great friends and confidants. This strength helps individuals form meaningful and lasting relationships.

To practice and encourage the character strength of open-mindedness at home, please visit the Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families. There, you will watch a video clip together and discuss a quote and three questions related to open-mindedness. Another way to practice this mindset is to watch a game and consider things from the point of view of the officials/refs/umpires or from the point of view of the team you are rooting against.

Thank you for your support!

Midpoint of First Quarter is Here

The midpoint of the 1st quarter is today. For students in grades 6 – 12, please have your child show you their grades in Schoology at this point. If you have any questions or concerns, please directly contact your child’s teacher(s). Starting off the year with direct communication will help establish positive habits that translate into success.

Halloween Parade and Costumes

Halloween will be celebrated at SSCS on Thursday, October 31st, 2024 with our traditional Halloween Parade starting at 2:15 p.m. Parents and community members are welcome to line-up around the U-shaped driveway to watch the children in the parade (weather permitting).

Please remember that costumes must be appropriate for a school setting, and not involve excessive blood, gore, or weapons.  In addition, costumes need to follow the basic requirements of the Code of Conduct Dress Code and not be “revealing” or “suggestive” in nature. Middle and High School costumes must be able to be worn in such a manner that it will not distract or disrupt the educational activities that are otherwise planned for the day. “Scary clown/ creepy clown” masks and costumes will not be allowed to be worn or possessed on school grounds.

HELP US FEED THE CANDY MONSTER

candy monsterThere is a CANDY MONSTER roaming the halls of Sharon Springs Central School that feeds on Candy! (and possibly children, we aren’t too sure yet!) You can find it in new locations throughout the building through October 25!

We are looking for donations of candy to help our Trunk or Treat Event on Halloween from 5-7 pm! All donations can be placed inside the Monster’s Belly or left at the front desk. We want to make sure we have enough candy for all of the little ghouls, goblins, monster and more who come to Trunk or Treat so any donations would be greatly appreciated!

The Sharon Springs PTO & After School Program thank you in advance for your continued support to our school and our community.

PARENTS OF THE SENIOR CLASS OF 2025

It is hard to believe that we are talking about Graduation already!  Please be advised that we recently sent a list to the Senior Homeroom requesting they submit their names as they will appear on their diplomas.  We have urged our Seniors to discuss this with their parents before writing their name on the list.  We encourage you to discuss this with your Senior so everyone will be satisfied with what is on the diploma.  Thank you.
