Principal’s Message
As we are quickly approaching the midpoint of the first quarter, please take a moment to review your child’s grades and/or touch base with your child’s teacher(s). Keep in mind that teachers in grades 6 – 12 provide access to your child’s grades via Schoology. If you need your username and password, please contact Mr. Tom Reynolds at treynolds@sharonsprings.org. Thank you for supporting your child’s success!
Student Focus
Dear Families,
This week our school community focused on the character strength of Open-Mindedness. Our students learned that open-mindedness involves considering new ideas and trying new things. They discussed that people who exercise open-mindedness examine things from all sides and don’t jump to conclusions too quickly.
Open-mindedness is the willingness to actively search for evidence that goes against one’s favored opinions, plans, or goals. Open-minded individuals are able to weigh all evidence fairly, when it is available. They see the other side and fight the tendency to have a bias for their own views. And, rather than favoring the socially dominant views, they give attention to those that are less dominant.
Open-minded individuals are often good listeners and called upon to provide a balanced viewpoint. Both listening and the ability to deliver reasonable and practical advice are marks of good friends and confidantes. This strength helps individuals form meaningful and lasting relationships.
To practice and encourage the character strength of open-mindedness with your child, please ask them open-ended questions and have discussions that encourage an open-mind.
Have a wonderful weekend!
SSCS Student Handbook
Parents/Guardians should have received a Kinvo message with the link to review the 2023-24 Student Handbook and the link to sign the electronic Acknowledgement Agreement. If you have not already done so, please go to Sharon Springs Form and Policy Page on the school’s website and click on the Sharon Springs CSD’s Student Handbook to review the content and then click on Parent/Guardian Acknowledgment Agreement 2023-24. If a parent or guardian needs a paper copy of the Acknowledgment Agreement to sign, please contact Michelle Keaney at mkeaney@sharonsprings.org or by phone (518) 284-2267 x106.
Transportation/Dismissal Changes Guidelines
On a day that you need to change your child’s dismissal plan, a written request needs to be received in the Main Office by 9:00 am on the day the child(ren) will be picked up.
The notes should include:
- The student’s full name;
- The individual picking up the child(ren);
- The Parent/Guardian’s phone number;
- The Parent/Guardian’s signature.
End of the day or last minute phone calls to the school should be limited to unforeseen emergencies. This is in place to ensure accurate and timely communication so that your child is dismissed safely according to your wishes. In the event of a true emergency need, PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL – call the school at (518) 284-2267. Teachers and staff may not have access to email in order to relay your message to the appropriate people in a timely manner.
Emergency Dismissal Plans
Emergency Dismissal Forms & Demographic Forms were sent home with students this week. Please complete these forms and return to your child’s homeroom teacher or the Main Office as soon as possible to ensure information is up-to-date.
In the event of the School District declaring an emergency dismissal, the school district will follow the parent/guardian’s instructions on the early emergency dismissal notification forms on file.
If you have a cell phone number on file with the district, you will receive a text notification in the event of an early/emergency dismissal.

Will You Help Feed the Candy Monster?
- There is a CANDY MONSTER roaming the halls of Sharon Springs Central School that feeds on Candy (and possibly children, we aren’t too sure yet)!
- You can find it in new locations throughout the building between October 2-October 27!
- We are looking for donations of candy to help with our Trunk or Treat Event on Halloween from 5-7!
- All donations can be placed inside the Monster’s Belly or left at the front desk.
- We want to make sure we have enough candy for all of the little ghouls, goblins, superheroes, monsters and more who come to trunk or treat so any donations would be greatly appreciated!
- The Sharon Springs PTO & After School Program Thank You in Advance for your continued support to our school and our community!
Computers Available
