A few general reminders:

  • With winter weather upon us, please make sure our K – 5 students have boots, hats, gloves, snow pants, and winter jacket for recess. (If there is a financial need for any of these items please either send a note in with your child or email mkeaney@sharonsprings.org).
  • If your child reaches out to you during the school day reporting that they are sick, please instruct them to go to Nurse Betsy.
  • As you know, we are making a school-wide effort to ensure everyone at SSCS feels welcomed, supported and affirmed in becoming the best version of themselves. With that said, please support this effort in encouraging your child(ren) to be as kind as they can as often as they can to everyone.

    Student Focus

This week our school community focused on the character strength of kindness. Kindness means you are generous to others and you are never too busy to help out. You enjoy doing good deeds for other people without expecting anything for yourself.

Kindness is grounded in the belief of a common humanity in which others are worthy of care, attention, affection, and compassion. Kind people think about the needs and feelings of other people, and then act to help those people. Kind people are selfless. That is why a true act of kindness is distinct from helping another person in order to simply gain something for yourself. An individual with the strength of kindness helps others because it’s’ the right thing to do, not because they expect any reciprocal treatment or gain in reputation.

In addition to empathy and sympathy, the character strength of kindness is indicative of an individual’s moral reasoning capacity and level of social responsibility. That means people who develop kindness possess a strong personal ethical responsibility to care for other people. And, their acts of kindness towards others lead to additional acts of kindness by those who have been helped.

To encourage the character strength of kindness with your child, please share with them the acts of kindness you’ve experienced. Thank you for your continued kindness in supporting SSCS.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

Playground Access While School Programs Are In Session

For the safety of our students, the School Playground is closed to the public during school hours 7:30AM-5:00PM Monday through Friday when school is in session. Visitor passes are available at the Front Desk upon administrative approval.

    Winter Recess Preparedness

Now that our weather is colder, a reminder to K-5 parents and students to make sure they are prepared for outdoor recess time. (Snow boots, snow pants, hats, gloves/mittens and warm coats.) Please make sure your K-5 child has warm weather attire each day to go outside so they can participate in recess.
