Small School – Big Effort
High Character – Huge Success
Weekly Bulletin – Feb 8, 2024
Principal’s Message
It’s hard to believe we are into the third week of the third quarter. With the winter break being next week we hope this is a time in which our students can re-energize with a renewed focus on their goals. On this week off from school, please:
- Ask about what your child is learning about in each subject;
- Review key concepts; and
- Check your child’s Schoology account to see your child’s grades (students in grades 6 – 12: email tyorke@sharonsprings.org if you don’t have access).
Also, if your child has a personal device, please make sure you have access to your child’s account and check out how they are using their device (scroll through their social media accounts and check their browser history). Unfortunately, we are learning of children as young as 5 years old using devices at home and stumbling upon adult content; and older students struggling on how to manage their time and getting themselves into compromising situations by making impulsive decisions that are amplified by how easy it is to share content on various apps. We need your support in helping our students make safe, responsible decisions.
Student Focus
Dear Families,
This week at SSCS we focused on the character strength of love. Love means you value close relationships with others and being close to people.
The character strength of love represents the way we think, feel, and behave towards the people with whom we have close relationships. When one person loves another person, that person: comforts and makes the other feel safe; sacrifices on the other’s behalf; supports the other during struggles; and places the others’ needs ahead of their own. If you love a person, that person makes you feel safe and secure. You can be yourself with that person. You miss that person when they are not around.
On a group level, love is vital for the wellbeing of society. The world is endlessly interconnected. We are all dependent upon each other for survival and happiness. Love produces positive feelings, which help negate loneliness, anxiety, and depression. Without love, we cannot form strong relationships with our families, friends, or communities. A world without love is a dangerous world.
It’s Cookie Time!
To practice and encourage the character strength of love with your child, be sure to show and tell them how much you love them and point out all the people who show them love.
Girl Scout Troop 2844 will be selling Girl Scout Cookies at the NBT Bank in Sharon Springs this Saturday, Feb. 17, from 9:00am – 12:00pm.
