Five student members of the SSCS Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter had an opportunity this summer to attend and compete at the FBLA National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida. This opportunity came off their outstanding performance at the New York State FBLA Conference last April in Rochester.
FBLA helps high school students prepare for careers in business through academic competitions, leadership development, and educational programs. New York State has a 170 FBLA chapters with student membership at 5,600.
Attending and competing at the five-day national conference under the guidance of SSCS FBLA Advisor Barbara Handy were:
- Yasmin Issa – Introduction to Public Speaking
- Peyton Fassett – Help Desk
- Kirsten Kennedy – Future Business Educator
- Ava Jump – Introduction to FBLA
- Tyler Lyon – Digital Video Production
Issa and Jump were also selected as delegates and were responsible for voting on the national FBLA officer candidates. In addition to competing, students attended sessions featuring national keynote speakers, workshops, the national Expo Center, and FBLA Night at Universal Studios.
