Five members of the SSCS chapter of the National FFA Organization attended the 99th New York State FFA Convention last week. The convention was held May 2-4 at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center and included more than 2,000 FFA members, advisors and honored guests along with inspiring speakers and agricultural professionals.
SSCS student attendees included Hunter Bolster, Payton Rullman, Sophia Insogna, Alyssa Smith and Kaitlyn Roosevelt. Accompanying them was SSCS FAA Advisor/Teacher Anne Allen. Hunter was our delegate and participated in the Aquaculture contest. Sophia, Payton, Kaitlyn and Alyssa made it to the fourth round of Junior Quiz Bowl.
This annual convention offers students the opportunity to expand their knowledge during workshops and tours by exploring different fields in the agriculture industry and networking with agricultural business professionals and colleges during the Career Engagement Expo.
The convention is also the state finals for 30 FFA Career and Leadership Development events and competitions where students test their knowledge and skills against others at the same competitive level. They also have the opportunity to take part in any number events or watch, learn, and observe as others compete, demonstrating their talents, aptitudes and abilities. Many of these competitions serve as qualifiers to the National FFA Convention.
FFA is a youth organization that prepares members for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. Way to go Spartans!
