Member of the SSCS high school band and middle and elementary school choruses joined their peers from five other area school districts to perform Saturday (Feb. 8) at the All County Winter Music Festival.
This annual event is sponsored by the Schoharie County Music Educators’ Association (SCMEA) and was held this year at Cobleskill-Richmondville’s Golding Middle School. Exceptional student musicians were chosen to participate based on recommendations by their music teachers.
These selected students rehearsed with guest conductors on Friday and Saturday. The festival culminated in a series of public concerts on Saturday afternoon. Other participating school districts included Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Cobleskill-Richmondville, Duanesburg, Middleburgh and Schoharie.
SSCS members of the select high school band (grades 9-12) were Kaylee Crewell, Tyler Lyon and Ava Jump. SSCS members of the selected junior high chorus (grades 7-8) were Jordyn Crewell and Barrett Lynk. Members of the select elementary school chorus (grades 5-6) were Kayla Kerber, Morgan Lynk, Ellie O’Connor, Lillie Yacobucci, Sammi Crewell, Bailey Puding, Alexa Raggi, Eimyrja Smith and Colton Starr.
SCMEA meets on a regular basis to plan two festivals which offer expanded music opportunities for music students. The group also sponsors scholarships for graduating seniors who will be studying music in college next year.
