Member of the SSCS middle and high school bands and elementary chorus joined their peers from five other area school districts to perform Saturday (Jan. 27) at the All County Winter Music Festival.
This annual event is sponsored by the Schoharie County Music Educators’ Association (SCMEA) and was held this year at Schoharie Junior-Senior High School. Exceptional student musicians were chosen to participate based on recommendations by their music teachers.
These selected students rehearsed with guest conductors on Friday and Saturday. The festival culminated in a series of public concerts on Saturday afternoon. Other participating school districts included Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Cobleskill-Richmondville, Duanesburg, Middleburgh and Schoharie.
SSCS members of the select high school band (grades 9-12) were Yasmin Issa, Kaylee Crewell, Anneliese Herzog, Devin Tissiere, Tyler Lyon, Clayton VanPatten and Ava Jump. SSCS members of the selected junior high band (grades 7-8) were Kristopher Lynk, Isabella Cornwell, Sophia Insogna, Maya Korona, Molly Parsons and Audrey Thurley. Members of the select elementary school chorus (grades 5-6) were Kayla Kerber, Bryar Bissonette, Lillie Yacobucci, Jaxon Insogna, Morgan Lynk and Barrett Lynk.
SCMEA meets on a regular basis to plan two festivals which offer expanded music opportunities for music students. The group also sponsors scholarships for graduating seniors who will be studying music in college next year.
