two high school students, a boy and a girl, dust for fingerprints

SSCS juniors Logan Tessier and Alexzina Merritt are enrolled in the two-year Criminal Justice program through BOCES Career and Technical Education (CTE), Schoharie campus.

Recently they “dusted up” on their crime solving knowledge – literally, by dusting for, and collecting, fingerprints.

This skill is one of dozens taught in the program offered to about 100 CTE students each school year. The program teaches the history, theory, practices and recent developments in the field of criminal justice. It also teaches hands-on skills such as fingerprint collection, radio use, arresting and handcuffing and dealing with safety hazards and emergency situations.

Logan said he is interested in the problem-solving aspects of the industry. “I want to be a private investigator,” he said. “I like the idea of solving mysteries and helping people.”

His Sharon Springs classmate, Alexzina, said she chose the program “because I wanted to get a job in corrections and I want to be able to help people.”

Good luck to both as they pursue their interests in the Criminal Justice field as part of their high school studies.
