Congratulations to the SSCS girls athletic teams for being awarded the Pat Grasso Sportsmanship Banner for the 2023-2024 school year by the Tri-Valley League. This is a special honor and one the district has never received before.
The Tri-Valley League places an emphasis on sportsmanship throughout each of the three sports seasons. At the end of each season, the coaches assign points to each team indicating their level of sportsmanship and this is tallied to see which team has the best sportsmanship. At the end of the year, these votes are added together from each season to determine the team that has the best sportsmanship.
SSCS Girls Varsity Soccer (Coach Korona), Girls Varsity Basketball (Coach Behr), and Girls Varsity Softball (Coach Pitonza) teams had the highest number of votes this year out of all of the Tri-Valley League teams, earning the Pat Grasso Sportsmanship Banner for the 2023-2024 school year.
We are very proud that our SSCS high school girls teams are demonstrating qualities of sportsmanship on a regular basis. It is our belief that sportsmanship that is modeled, practiced, reinforced, and rewarded in athletics, builds athletes who ultimately win in life. These three teams deserve a huge congratulations for indicating that they can compete with honor, respect their teammates and opponents, and do not sacrifice integrity for victory.
