SSCS celebrated November National Veterans and Military Families Month by honoring our local veterans and learning about the character strengths of Bravery and Gratitude – part of this year’s Positivity Project. A special Morning Program event was held Nov. 17 to honor local veterans – family and loved ones of our SSCS students and staff – and veterans who could not attend. The auditorium was filled with patriotic songs and dress, American flags, photos and readings about our honorees, a large military display and a special breakfast.
When we think of our veterans we have gratitude for their bravery and all the sacrifices they made to defend and protect our country, freedom and our way of life. Students learned that Bravery means acting with mental, moral, or physical strength even when the individual knows things are difficult or scary. Bravery isn’t simply fearlessness, but instead the overcoming of fear. Overcoming fears is critically important in individual development, as it allows the person to do more and become more.
Gratitude means you are aware of and thankful for good things that happen. It is an affirmation that there is goodness in other people and the world and that we have received that goodness. People with the strength of gratitude have a readiness to show appreciation for kindness and also to return kindness.
This month, and all year long, SSCS has tremendous Gratitude for the Bravery of all our veterans who have and are now serving around the world!
