After 42 years of dedication to education and her inexhaustible love of students, teaching and community, Barbara Handy took a walk into retirement on January 2 with all of her Spartans fans walking with her. The longtime teacher, advisor and mentor to so many over the years is officially retiring after being diagnosed with cancer. Despite this challenging diagnosis, Mrs. Handy’s spirit remains as indomitable as ever and she plans to continue teaching at SSCS in retirement as much as her body allows. In the meantime, students and staff showed their gratitude and admiration for this woman as she was escorted from her classroom to the gym and then to the exit as the school band played the Alma Mater for her on her way out. Best of luck to a true Spartan who will never be forgotten!
