As SSCS kicks off another great school year our secondary students and staff have chosen this theme for 2023-24: “Small School – Big Effort – High Character – Huge Success!”
“We want each and every SSCS student to become the best versions of themselves,” said Superintendent/Principal Thomas Yorke. “I see greatness ahead for each of them and for this greatness to be realized it starts with the daily choice to commit our best to “small tasks” with maximum effort and integrity.”
“We have a lot to look forward to,” Yorke added. “This includes academic achievements, athletic competitions, student musical performances, deep engagement in clubs, and incredible opportunities through FBLA and FFA, to name a few of those opportunities. There are a multitude of ways for students to give their best effort in a safe and welcoming school full of people striving moment-by-moment to do what is right by supporting each others success.”
SSCS launches new Amplify initiative
This school year SSCS is initiating a new program called “Amplify.” Amplify is a continuation of Principal Yorke’s open-door policy that enables students to voice their opinions, questions and concerns to school administration. Each student who participates in Amplify is committed to the following “small tasks” with big effort and high character:
- To communicate honestly, openly, respectfully and directly with SSCS administration
- To encourage student engagement throughout our school
- To work collaboratively to create and maintain a student culture of mutual respect through empathy
- To provide feedback for improving the student experience for ALL SSCS students
With these intentional and coordinated efforts, it is the goal of SSCS to create and maintain an educational environment in which each student feels safe and supported in focusing on learning the skills and habits that provide them the opportunity to grow into future-ready individuals who value and contribute to connections that inspire our best to become better.
“Our staff is eager to connect with your children and help them succeed in academic and extracurricular opportunities,” Yorke said. “Every member of our faculty and staff are united in the mission to see your children strive and expand their potential. With your continued support, we move forward into the school year to accomplish this goal.”
