The SSCS Class of 2024 dedicates its yearbook to Math teacher and advisor Dan Cornwell. Presenting him with his yearbook are yearbook editors Cadance Belfance (center) and Jayna Manko.

SSCS held its year-end secondary school Awards Ceremony June 5 honoring students in grades 6-7 and 9-11 for achievement in academics, attendance, music and athletics. Eighth and 12th grade students will be honored at their upcoming graduation ceremonies later this month.

The SSCS Class of 2024 also dedicated the 2024 yearbook to Math teacher and advisor Dan Cornwell and recognized retirees Librarian Heather Bivins and Special Education Teacher Paul Siers. Congratulations to our students and families!

ATTENDANCE AWARDS

Students with no more than a combined 1-3 absences, tardies and/or dismissals, regardless of reason.

GEORGE S. AND STELLA M. KNIGHT ESSAY AWARD

A competition open to all high school students throughout New York State. The contest is sponsored by the Empire State Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. The winner of this competition will move on to the national competition.

KEITH EBERHART MEMORIAL AWARD

Award presented by the classes of 1980, 1981 and 1983 Student Council in memory of Keith Eberhart. It is awarded to the Sophomore boy, who in the coaches’ opinion, demonstrated the most team spirit as a basketball player.

STUDENT COUNCIL LEADERSHIP AWARDS– ROBERT L FITCH MEMORIAL

Given to a boy or girl in each grade 6-12, who exhibited the most outstanding leadership qualities in extracurricular activities at SSCS. Chosen through a combined vote of students and faculty advisors in extracurricular organizations. Dependability, service and character are the most important criteria in the selection of this exceptional leadership award.

SECTION IV CHARACTER COUNTS RECOGNITION AWARD

Section IV believes at the heart of every leader must be positive character traits. As Michael Josephson states: “Our character is both formed and revealed by how we deal with everyday challenges as well as extraordinary pressures and temptation, like a well-made tower, character is built stone by stone, decision by decision.”

20th CENTURY CLUB CITIZENSHIP AWARD

Award given to a member of the Sophomore class who has leadership capacity, maintained a 75 or above average and has an exemplary behavioral record. Sponsored by the 20th Century Club.

PRESIDENT’S AWARD FOR EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE

This award recognizes outstanding commitment to academic achievement. To be eligible, students must have a Grade Point Average between 90-100 and a recommendation from at least two other school staff members. As part of the criteria, recommendations have included activities in which the student demonstrates high motivation, initiative, integrity, intellectual depth, leadership qualities and/or exceptional judgment.

The Nate Lull Scholarship is a one-time award given to students based on their high school achievement and their value of continued education as expressed through a personal statement essay. Nate Lull, a local sports reporter, believes in supporting local students and communities. $1,000 scholarship was awarded to:
