Sophomore Ava Jump attended the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Student Leadership Conference as the student-athlete representative from SSCS. The conference was held March 28 in Albany.
In the fall of 2023 Ava was nominated to be the SSCS student-athlete representative and serve on the Section IV Student Athlete Advisory Committee. Throughout the school year she has attended monthly meetings with Athletic Director/Coach Chris Smith, working with 36 other Section IV student-athletes to promote safety, sportsmanship, leadership (in the classroom and athletic arena), and positive relationships with coaches, administrators, and other student-athletes.
At the completion of these sessions, Ava was selected as one of 12 of the Section IV athletes to attend the March conference where student-athletes from all 11 sections in the state participated in leadership and goal-setting workshops. They also heard from nationally renowned keynote speakers with inspirational leadership messages encouraging student athletes to “become the best versions of themselves” and “always include an extra seat at the table.”
“It was so impressive to see high school athletes from all across NYS embrace their roles as student leaders and use this day as an opportunity to grow their leadership skills,” said SSCS Coach Randi Korona, who accompanied Ava to the conference.
