A group of SSCS FFA Ag members joined more than 1,000 students statewide participating in a wide array of agricultural contests held at SUNY Cobleskill on September 27.
Food Science students created a display and baked an apple tart to compete with other food science students from all over the area. Animal lovers judged dairy cattle, horses and livestock, while others competed in fisheries and wildlife contests, insect and tree identification and small engine repair. After the competitions students had an opportunity to explore different displays by agriculture departments, including visiting the reptile room and aquaculture center.
This FFA education opportunity was provided by SSCS Advisor/teacher Anne Allen and chaperone/teacher Dan Cornwell.
In the Food Science competition, second place was awarded to SSCS contestants Lilyana Perrotti, Matt Roosevelt, Sean Shults and Natalie Strohm for their apple tart creation. Hunter Bolster captured fifth place in the Fisheries and Wildlife division and seventh place in the Insect Identification category.
