Coming off a very successful 2023 season that included an appearance in the Tri-Valley League Championship game and a trip to the Sectionals semi-finals, this year’s SSCS Boys Soccer squad has similar expectations.
The team continues to field players from SSCS (Spartans) and the neighboring Cherry Valley-Springfield Central School District (Patriots) under coaches Cyle Conley and David Mayton.
The combined team graduated four starters from last year’s squad and lost another to relocation, but will return six starters with “tons of experience,” said Coach Conley. “We’re expecting our younger players to step up to fill the remaining spots with goalie and other positions.”
The 2024 team is led on offense by seniors Mason Kutinsky (SSCS) and Kris Cade (CV-S), and on defense by senior Alex Rockwell (CV-S) and junior Michael Cashman (SSCS). The other two returning starters are Left Mid Aidan Bosc (CV-S) and Right Mid Andrew Lusk (CV-S) who are both relentless runners willing to do what is needed.
“We preach hard work and toughness as a program, and this group exemplifies that persona,” Conley said.
The team started practices last week. It’s first game is Tuesday, Sept. 3, 4 p.m., at Cobleskill-Richmondville CSD.
The 2024 team is made up of 10 players from SSCS and 12 players who attend Cherry Valley-Springfield. These are the SSCS players:
