The SSCS Boys Varsity Soccer club offers a mix of experienced and first time varsity players on this year’s 2023 squad. The team continues to field players from SSCS and the neighboring Cherry Valley-Springfield Central School District under coaches Cyle Conley and David Mayton.
“Merging soccer with CVS has been great,” said Coach Conley. “We started the process in fall rec league and summer league before so it has been a pretty smooth process, with great support from both schools and parents.”
The team lost six seniors to graduation in June, four of those playing key roles in the squad’s chance at a league title and competing in Sectionals.
Seven starters have returned from last year, and “although we are pretty young in terms of age, they gained a ton of experience from the previous season,” Coach Conley said. The other four starting spots will be filled by players who will be playing varsity soccer for the first time this fall. Conley said he is excited to work with these players.
“It’s a great group of kids who work hard, enjoy the game, but can always lighten the mood with a joke or two,” he said.
The 2023 team is made up of nine players from SSCS and 12 players who attend Cherry Valley-Springfield. Here are the SSCS players pictured below:
