Understanding the importance of celebrating individuality in our school community, the SSCS Student Council sponsored The BoX Challenge this spring. The boX Challenge is a student-led movement to break the “boxes” of stereotypes and labels that society places on individuals. By choosing positive words that challenge these labels, students gathered to embrace their unique identities and encouraged others to do the same.

They did this by assembling in the gym and writing positive words on each other (face, hand, arm, etc.) using skin-safe markers. These positive words replaced stereotypical labels we often associate with one another. For example, instead of thinking of someone as quiet or shy, they wrote the words insightful or thoughtful on that individual to change that “tag.” Students reinforced their thoughts and celebrated their actions through posts and pictures on social media.
